What is Community Deathcare?

Community Deathcare comes from a belief that our culture is missing out on deep experiences of meaning when we walk blindly and uninformed into times of tragedy, life changing diagnosis, caregiving, death and grief.  We are a group of local volunteers, educators, health care workers and curious humans dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our neighbors, friends and community members.  We offer informational classes, facilitated conversations, advocacy and policy consulting for hospitals and care homes. We offer step by step guidance for families curious about caring for their own loved ones after death whether for emotional, spiritual, financial or environmental reasons. Arizona Community Deathcare is a Resource for anyone thinking about or facing end of life.

Our Mission

The mission of Arizona Community Deathcare is to preserve the inherent rights of families and communities to care for their own dead in a personal, respectful, and environmentally sound manner. We do so by creating and sustaining a network of ethical, responsible and knowledgeable community members and institutions who understand families rights and ensure that information and access to family centered death care is made available. Our primary focus is to educate and empower family members to shape and direct the death care of their loved one as supported by state law.

Our work is accomplished by creating opportunities for conversations, education and collaboration. We offer resources to the community so people gain the skills to support the experience of grief.  We want to live in a culture where everyone knows what to do when someone is dying or grieving.
